Martha Jean Marek 80 of Caldwell passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in Bryan. Services are planned for Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 am at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Glen Wearden officiating, burial will follow in Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.The family will receive guests Wednesday eveing at the funeral home from 5 to 8:00pm and the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. “Jean” was born February 22, 1932 in Burleson County to parents Adolph Beran and Millie (Knesek) Beran. “Jean” married Frank J. Bayer November 3, 1951 in Caldwell. This union was blessed with two daughters Shirley & Janice. After twenty-one years this marriage ended. She then married Edward V. Marek December 1, 1973 in Milam County, until his passing in 1990. She was a hard worker by nature and it started right out of high school with her job at Holubec’s Drug Store, then as a bookkeeper for Clint Luksa Mobil Oil Consignment, and worked for Penney’s Department Store. She also was the Owner of Hwy Pkg Store and numerous other business interests in Burleson County. In her spare time she loved keeping up her yard gardening, quilting, cooking her famous meat loaf, or eating kolaches. She also enjoyed dancing and taking family trips and vacations.

Mrs. Marek is preceded in death by her parents, her second husband Edward V. Marek, a step-son Ronnie Marek, and close companion Ray Zgabay. “Jean” is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Macik and husband Lonnie of Bryan, and Janice Ofczarzak and husband Mark of Caldwell, a sister, Lillie Mae Brinkman and husband Glenn of Caldwell, four grandchildren: Billy Brown, Kelly Kitchens, Megan Henley, and Adam Ofczarzak, and by three great-grandchildren: Landon Brown, Holden Kitchens, and Regan Henley, and also by her first husband Frank J. Bayer of Caldwell other relatives and many friends and acquaintances. Serving as pallbearers are: Adam Ofczarzak, Billy Brown, Landon Brown, Brandon Kitchens, Holden Kitchens, Robby Henley, Glenn Brinkman, and Clifford Brinkman.
